Exploring…The Flower Belt, Helmsley

If you're searching for an idyllic dog-friendly day out near Helmsley, look no further than The Flower Belt - a charming pick-your-own wildflower farm perched just outside the market town on the A170.

Nestled on a gentle hill with sweeping views over the North York Moors, it’s a peaceful retreat that offers a cute and colourful experience for both you and your four-legged friend.

We went along with Ringo & Pegs to see what it’s all about.

Where is it?

Just a couple of minutes’ drive from Helmsley, The Flower Belt is set in the scenic heart of Ryedale, with panoramic vistas of the moors. If you’re driving then postcode YO62 5EE will get you there nicely! Whether you're in the mood for tulips in spring, vibrant wildflowers and sunflowers over summer, or a pumpkin patch in autumn, this place claims to evolve beautifully with the seasons. We visited at the height of summer so the sunflowers weren’t quite ready but the wildflower fields were absolutely stunning and much bigger than we expected.

The Flower Belt Dog Policy

Dogs are welcome if they’re kept on a lead and you clean up after them. Ours really enjoyed sniffing around, and there is plenty of space if your dog isn’t overly sociable.

What is there to do?

You can wander freely through around 7.5 acres of blooming fields (expanded from 5 acres last year) to hand-pick your own wildflower bouquet. Tools are all provided onsite—grab a pair of scissors (even child-friendly ones), and choose from jars, vases or buckets to fill with blooms. Prices run approximately £7 for a jam jar, £15 for a vase, and you can opt to buy a bucket if you’d like to keep it. Once you've picked your flowers, the staff will wrap them beautifully for you to take home.

Food & Drink

You’re encouraged not to bring your own picnic, so you can leave your sarnies at home. The Honey Tap, is the cosy on-site café and bar. It’s open throughout the day (10 am–5 pm for flower picking), and you can enjoy barista coffee, artisan tea, homemade cakes, and soft drinks. Then on Friday to Sunday evenings (until 8 pm), The Honey Tap switches into pizza and bar mode, serving wood-fired pizzas, local beers and wine.

You can check opening times and find out more about The Flower Belt here.
