Why Swinsty and Fewston are Perfect Spots for Your Dog Photoshoot

A few weeks ago on a slightly mizzly October day, I met Monty and his owner at Swinsty Reservoir for a photoshoot. Monty is a very cute, sandy coloured Cocker Spaniel, and in true spaniel style he brought a LOT of sniffs, wags and zoomies!

Swinsty is a perfect choice for our outdoor dog photo sessions as it combines woodland, open paths, foliage and the backdrop of the water, giving us plenty of scenic spots for photography and also plenty of room for dogs to roam when they need to let off a bit of steam in-between shots. The long paths also make for great running shots, and its location means it’s easily accessible from Leeds, Otley, Harrogate and much of West / North Yorkshire.

As Monty is pretty high energy, we kept him on the lead for a fair proportion of his shoot, meaning we could steer him into specific areas of woodland like bracken, or where the light was good. Once I knew I had the key shots I wanted, we let him free to do his own thing and I followed him with the camera.

Oftentimes people tell me they’d love a shoot but they just can’t imagine their dog keeping still. This is absolutely not required! I have different ways of ensuring we get beautiful portraits, even with crazy high energy pups.

These are a small selection of Monty’s final set of photographs. If you would like to capture your own pet with a countryside dog photography session, contact me or have a look at the various packages to see which suits you best 🐾
